(sort of) Dry run

I know I've been very remiss lately in my blogging duties.

But I hope to make it up to everyone soon with some really spectacular photos and—hopefully not too—exciting stories.

Yesterday we took a major step in our preparations for the upcoming trip. We semi-packed the canoe we'll be taking and took it for a short run on a nicely-flowing San Marcos River.

After a heat index of 109 (!) just a few days before, we were treated yesterday with a high in the low 70's. Boy, did it feel nice to be a little chilly on the water!

In addition, there was even rain! Not as much as had been predicted (fortunately for our paddle) but enough to make its presence known.

Although it was light enough that you probably can't see it in this picture. But doesn't everything look lush?!

Here's another shot of San Marcos riverbank trees. For some reason they looked especially lovely in the flat light...

In a few weeks I'll have very different river scenery to show you. Stay tuned!

BTW, I've noticed that Blogger (or Picasa) has corrupted some of the photos in some of my last posts. Since I can't find a good answer to why this has happened in various google forums, I'll try to find time to reload the photos in the next few days. If anyone knows why this should happen for no reason, and/or how to prevent it or fix it, please let me know.
